Art for the Sole Shoes is the dream and passion of Designer Michelle Pollock

Drop Michelangelo into a blender; add a pinch of Willy Wonka, a dash of Monet, whip until smooth then sprinkle with Manolo Blahnik.  The end product is a pure imagination of luscious mosaics that radiate luscious colors for craving eyes. Elegant "works of art", that infuse cultures from around the world, to extend the boundaries of the imagination and blur the lines between art and unique footwear.

The Process
The synopsis of designing shoes for me, begins with an inspiration.  That creativity can derive from a visual connection- the tender flutter of an exquisite butterflies wing to an emotion - passion, whether good or painful and incorporating all that lies in between.  I've learned that art utilizes all senses, the warmth and desire of a strong yet gentle touch pulling you close, The fragrance bouquet of a sultry spicy Thai meal intertwining with the fresh clean smell of Lake Michigan being carried through your open window, with smooth jazz  softly playing in the background.  Feeling the cool texture of handmade terracotta tile under your bare feet.  The touch of chiffon flowing freely as the breeze catches it allowing for just a moment the freedom to become a new identity. Seeing things not as they are but what they could be, giving them personality and new dimension.
The next step is to sketch the idea out giving it  a three dimensional life.  This helps the client to visually see it and for me, as a designer, it removes it from my head and makes room for new ideas.  Similar to a piece of a song that get in your head and until you can sing it all the way through does it give you peace and stops haunting you.  Like Pinocchio it may become real or it could be tucked away to have life breathed into it at a later time.  As I view the sketch, I close my eyes to in vision the final masterpiece and work out any kinks I might anticipate.  As an athlete prepares for his race, I meticulously go through each detail in my mind. The curveager of the shoe, the vibrant colors, the experience of sliding the shoe on, the response it invokes. As each detail is scrutinized a mixture of nervous anticipation and over whelming excitement mix as the character of the shoe comes to life.

The shoe will go through several transformation when the final masterpiece emerges and the metamorphosis is complete what stands before the designer is truly a “Work of Art”.  Only after the approval from the Designer  does it get signed and if deemed in a Limited Edition Collection a number.  If the shoe is in a charity it will also receive a special marking for that charity.  The time it takes to complete the shoe depends on the amount of time the client approves the design and the intricate detail of the shoe.  Once the sketches are completed the designer can better estimate the time of completion.

Designers Note
I believe that risk taking is built into our DNA combined with discipline and a creative force I draw my audience into a performance through a dynamic mix of theater, history and artistic design, infuse with cultures from around the world to extend boundaries of the imagination and design unique “Works of Art” footwear.

For me I begin with balance, a strong core and a strong base, from there I can build a platform that allows myself to be inspired and challenged so I am constantly surpassing myself.
In creating these elegant, sultry, and even enchanting footwear, I hope to inspire and give confidence.
Confidence is gained when your comfortable, secure and a natural appearance is achieved.  When you look good it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with others.  As you achieve this within yourself you project that feeling onto others in the form of smiles and positive energy.  The shoes are designed to be worn (often)  admired and talked about. They love being the center of attention and photographs are a must.  Embrace the power and your individual uniqueness.  You can also wear the shoes just for fun! For whatever the reason you purchase them or just stop in and gaze at the artistic quality I hope they make you smile and add a little spice to your wardrobe.

The hardest part is allowing yourself to become venerable, to create and put ALL you are into your masterpiece, then send it out to be securitized and criticized.  As an artist I understand why past artists hid there works form public ridicule, every word becomes personal and an attack on your innermost self.  I’ve learned as many have, you can never please everyone, but for those who see the Beauty & The Beast (flaws) know that is what art is.  The other is the realization ,perfection will never be achieved, which is good, where would the challenge and desire be if it where.
